From September 5 to 8, the Italian Festival in Hoboken, New Jersey, will be more than a celebration of heritage—it will be a spotlight on Puglia’s top destinations, reaching thousands of Americans. For nearly a century, the festival has united Italian Americans, particularly the community from Molfetta, with the homeland through devotion to the Madonna dei Martiri. This year, Pugliapromozione is using this platform to attract visitors to the “Heel of Italy.”

Attracting 100,000 attendees, the event blends traditional religious festivities with modern tourism promotion, as Pugliapromozione highlights key destinations like Bari, Lecce, Fasano, Ostuni, and Polignano. These locations, already favorites of American tourists, will be promoted through a range of activities including B2B meetings, luminarie displays, and video projections of Puglia at Times Square.

Director Alessandro Piva will capture the essence of these destinations through exclusive footage, and Pugliapromozione will host an official stand showcasing the culture and tourism potential of the region.

According to Pugliapromozione’s 2023 statistics, American tourism in Puglia is on the rise with 157,800 arrivals and 398,600 overnight stays, marking a +40% increase in visits. Notably, Americans are drawn to the region’s Masseria stays and hotels, particularly in May and September.

This surge is part of the larger trend of Turismo delle Radici (Roots Tourism), where Italian descendants reconnect with their heritage.

With the theme of "Puglia: Business or Pleasure," this initiative unites both tourism and economic development, inviting visitors to not only experience Puglia’s beauty but also consider it as a place for business opportunities.

The regional government emphasizes the value of combining leisure with investment in a project that nurtures long-term ties between Puglia and the U.S.

This year’s Italian Festival in Hoboken serves as a bridge between the Italian-American community and the rising American interest in Puglia, fostering connections that celebrate tradition while promoting growth and innovation.
